Richard graduated from Cambridge in 1998 and after a year in general practice completed an internship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After a further year in emergency practice in London he was appointed as a Senior Clinical Training Scholar in small animal surgery at the University of Bristol. He obtained the RCVS Certificate in Surgery in 2003 and the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2007. He is also a European Veterinary Specialist in Surgery. Since completing his residency he has worked at Edinburgh Vet School and the Royal Veterinary College as a Lecturer in small animal surgery.

Emergency surgical procedures are some of the most exciting and rewarding parts of emergency practice. For some patients, surgery is literally the difference between life and death. This day of lectures and interactive case examples will equip you with a logical approach to many of the common surgical emergencies. The course leader will aim to give you confidence in your assessment and treatment of surgical cases by focussing on the key elements of many surgical procedures, and give you plenty of "real-life" tips for success from his own experience managing these cases.
