Holly - Canterbury
When owner Dianna Fry was out walking her dog Holly, a Labrador, in the local woods and she suddenly became unable to walk Dianna immediately contacted her vet. As it was a Sunday and Dianna’s own vet was a member practice of Vets Now in Canterbury she was asked to call the Vets Now clinic for emergency assistance. The team at Vets Now quickly assessed Holly’s situation over the telephone and asked Dianna to bring Holly down to the clinic where they could begin treatment.
As Vets Now operates from a fully equipped emergency veterinary hospital the veterinary team had all of the equipment on hand to assess Holly’s condition and within minutes of arriving at the clinic a full examination detected she had a pyometra (a pyometra is a very serious condition in a bitch and means the dog will have pus in the womb).
Holly’s owner Dianna told us more about the treatment provided by Vets Now, “Holly was immediately taken for surgery. The operation itself proved to be more complicated than the vet had anticipated as the pus was already leaking from the Fallopian tubes into her abdomen, and he duly warned me after the operation that the prognosis was not that great. We had read on the internet that whatever the vet does may not be enough to save the dog in this case.”
She continued, “It has therefore been with the greatest joy that I have watched Holly improving daily. In fact, I would almost say that she has regained all the vim and vigour of her youth.”
In Holly’s case attending the fully equipped Vets Now clinic meant that the vet had all of the equipment on hand to immediately detect a pyometra, a condition which can be difficult to detect without advanced veterinary equipment. The immediate detection allowed the team at Vets Now to operate on Holly immediately and ultimately save her life.
