Pet Blood Bank UK (PBBuk) collects blood from generous volunteer canine donors and supplies it to vets across the UK to ensure there is blood available if they need to perform a lifesaving blood transfusion for one of our pets.
A change in legislation in October 2005 made it possible for vets to store pet blood. Recognising this as a opportunity to assist the veterinary profession in providing blood transfusions, Vets Now raised the funds to set up and support the PBBuk charity. Through veterinary practices the charity will supply dogs all over the UK with vital, lifesaving blood.
And who are these doggy donors? They’re pets like yours. These dogs attend one of our regular blood drives where they make their donation. Afterwards these vital donations are taken to our custom-made facility where they are processed and split into packed red blood cells and fresh plasma. This means that just one donation from your pet has the potential to help up to four animals in need.
