Soft Tissue Surgery, Richard Coe, Vets Now Hospital

Richard qualified as a vet in 1998 from Cambridge University. After a year in general practice in Essex, he moved to America to spend a year as an intern in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After another year in emergency practice in London, Richard was appointed in 2001 as Senior Clinical Training Scholar (Resident) in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the University of Bristol, training with Professor Peter Holt. At Bristol, Richard developed a particular interest in urinary tract surgery, ENT, and oncologic/reconstructive surgery. He also trained in orthopaedic and neurosurgery and has a particular interest in spinal surgery. In 2007 Richard obtained the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. Following his residency Richard has worked as a Lecturer in Small Animal Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, and the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, before joining Vets Now Ltd as a Specialist Surgeon in 2009.

Richard has been involved with the new Vets Now Hospital from the early planning stages and has been part of the team responsible for designing and equipping the hospital. With the hospital now up and running, he is delighted to be returning to clinical work and to be part of a new and unique veterinary hospital facility in the UK, with superb facilities and equipment.

Richard sees cases for soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurosurgery.

Future Plans

Richard will develop a minimally invasive surgery service developing his existing expertise in laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgery and interventional radiology techniques to treat many conditions without the need for open invasive surgery.
