As with our specialist services, our emergency and critical care provision also works on a referral only basis, supporting our promise that we will never seek to offer first opinion veterinary care.
Our highly trained Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) veterinary team are equipped with the skills and experience to handle all ECC needs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This dedicated and passionate ECC team work within state of the art fully-equipped premises and have access to advanced monitoring equipment to support them in the delivery of a superlative level of emergency care for any patient admitted to the Glasgow Vets Now Hospital.
Daytime emergency referrals
Being able to refer a case for emergency care during the day for stabilisation allows veterinary practices to continue with their daytime scheduling as planned, with the assurance that their client is being seen by an experienced veterinarian that has advanced training in the field of emergency care. Just like our Out Of Hours service, once an emergency patient has been seen at the Hospital for stabilisation and critical care, the patient will then be transferred back to their own veterinary practice for continued care. A full copy of clinical notes will also be forwarded to the referring practice to ensure continuity of care for the patient.
Who can use the daytime emergency referral service?
Veterinary practices do not have to be a member of our Out Of Hours service to be able to refer a patient during the day for critical care, however in the best interest of the patient emergency referrals can only made by veterinary practices that are located within a reasonable distance from the Vets Now Hospital located in Glasgow city centre (click here to view location map).
