The University of Glasgow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Vets Now announce that Professor Stuart Carmichael, currently Professor of Veterinary Clinical Studies and Associate Dean for Clinical Services at the University of Glasgow, will be joining Vets Now in June 2009.
The University of Glasgow (GU) and Vets Now Ltd (VNL) have enjoyed and continue to enjoy a strong relationship and it is envisaged that Stuart's move will further support and facilitate this into the future. Stuart will be taking on a major national role in further developing Vets Now, bringing his combination of specialist expertise in the veterinary profession and considerable commercial experience to the Company as it broadens its range of services to practices throughout the UK.
Professor Stuart Reid, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine commented "Whilst on one hand I am obviously disappointed to be losing Stuart from his current role, I am delighted that his move is to Vets Now, an organisation with whom we have a strong historical and ongoing relationship. Stuart has been a valuable colleague and friend and his legacy here will without doubt be our new £10M small animal hospital which opens this spring. As one of the premier veterinary schools in the world, our focus on clinical excellence, education and training has been greatly enhanced by Stuart's tenure here. Vets Now is, similarly, a forward looking and exciting environment and I am sure Stuart will relish his new role with them. We hope that Stuart will remain closely involved with the Faculty whenever the opportunity arises for both organisations to work together in the future."
Vets Now currently fund and support the GU Lectureship in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC), enabling Dr Ava Firth to head up the ECC service at GU. They have also supported the launch of Scotland's first Residency Programme in ECC at GU with Tobias Grave, a previous long-standing Vets Now employee taking up this new position from January 2009.
Richard Dixon, founder and Group Managing Director at Vets Now said "We are thrilled to have Stuart joining the Vets Now team and I am sure he will be a great addition. We have a number of world class individuals working in the business and I know Stuart will fit in perfectly. Whilst there have always been certain areas of overlap in activity between the University and ourselves, the benefits of working alongside each other are clear and both organisations are committed to doing that whenever there is a suitable opportunity. I know that in his new role Stuart is keen to strengthen further our ties with the University and he has my absolute support in doing so."
Founded in Glasgow in 2001, Vets Now currently delivers services to over 350 member veterinary practices around the UK, employing more than 250 veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses across 33 UK locations. Now generating sales of c.£15M the organisation is at the forefront of the development in ECC and is committed to working with and supporting veterinary practices throughout the UK, and remaining at the forefront of a rapidly changing and modernising veterinary profession.
